Spike Lee didn’t just bring style to the Met Gala—he brought the legacy of Morehouse with him.

A proud graduate of the iconic HBCU that shaped leaders like MLK Jr., Lee honed his voice and vision on the Atlanta campus which served as inspiration for many of his films. 

Morehouse men don’t follow trends—they set them! Images and stories of  the iconic filmmaker Spike Lee and his stunning wife Tonya Lewis Lee stepping out at Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Benefit Gala went viral as everyone on social and mainstream media praised the couples unique style and grace.

 The theme of the 2025 Met Gala was "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style," highlighting the cultural significance of Black fashion & style through the years.  Lee made the trip to Detroit to watch his favorite team the Knicks take on the Pistons.

Spike Lee is, in part, famous for his collegiate film “School Daze,” a musical comedy with a message, that depicted HBCU school life and was loosely based on his time at Morehouse College & hanging with students from Morris Brown, Spelman College, and Clark Atlanta University. In fact, parts of the film were filmed on those campuses as well.

Spike Lee was born  “Shelton Jackson Lee in 1957.  His father, Bill Lee, was an accomplished jazz musician who moved the family to New York shortly after Spike was Born.
