Grambling State University (GSU) officials announced that (GSU) is set to receive more than $20 million in additional state funding following the signing of key appropriations bills by Governor Jeff Landry.
Passed by the Louisiana Legislature earlier this month, this historic investment underscores Grambling State’s enduring legacy of academic excellence and athletic distinction, while sustaining momentum as a driver of opportunity, innovation, and long-term institutional strength.
The funding secured through this legislative session represents targeted investments that build on the stable base funding provided for higher education in the Fiscal Year 2025–2026 budget.
The new funding, secured through multiple legislative acts, includes:
- · House Bill 1 (Act 1):
– $1.5 million in increased general operating support for FY 2025–2026
- · House Bill 460 (Act 461):
– $6.7 million for the renovation and expansion of athletic facilities
– $200,000 for the overlay of College Avenue Road, further strengthening the bond with the City of Grambling
- · House Bill 2 (Act 2):
– $2.7 million in Priority 1 and 2 funding toward a new Criminal Justice / Ph.D. in Criminology
academic facility (part of an $18.7 million total project) – $9.9 million for critical infrastructure improvements, emergency repairs, and utility system assessments to transform the built environment
- · House Bill 639 (Act 298):
– An estimated $2 million in projected gaming revenue to support athletic programs
“These appropriations represent more than fiscal support, they reflect trust in Grambling State’s direction and future,” said President Martin Lemelle, Jr. “We are committed to deploying these resources strategically and sustainably, aligning each investment with our institutional priorities. This is not just about improvement, it’s about transformation guided by discipline, purpose, and an unwavering belief in what our university can achieve.”
